BHE workshops are designed to offer a training replacement for BHA accreditation previously required to assess butternut trees in Ontario to determine their protection under the Endangered Species Act (ESA).
This workshop is geared for those who have participated in previous training as a BHA and would like a refresher and for qualified professionals (as defined by Ontario Regulation 830/21) who have not yet participated in butternut training. This training will increase comfort level in assessing the health of butternut trees using the Butternut Assessment Guidelines created by the Ontario government for the purposes of the ESA.
This course will cover:
- Method for assessing butternut health
- Legislation and regulations under the ESA with respect to butternut
- Recovery efforts for the species
- Identification of pure butternut vs hybrids
- Using Ministry of Environment Conservation and Parks (MECP) forms for reporting butternut assessments
- Presentation by Naturemetrics on butternut DNA collection and testing
- Lunch provided
The field portion of the course will allow attendees to practice butternut identification, assessment and reporting skills in a forest setting.
Space is limited. Sign up for the waitlist to be the first to know about future workshops!
